Because a computer object in the Computers OU will not be governed by the group poli cies linked to the OUs your organization has created specifically for computers; and because it requires an extra step to move a computer object from the Computers OU into the appropri ate OU, it is recommended to create computer objects before joining the computer to the domain. You can create the computer object in the correct OU initially, so that once the sys tem joins the domain it is immediately governed by the policies linked to that OU.

Follow a three-step process to validate user input: constrain, reject, and sanitize. Prevent canonicalization problems by using the .NET Framework to manually canonicalize paths before processing them. Reduce the likelihood of being exploited by a SQL injection attack by rigorously validating user input that will be included in a database query, using parameterized SQL commands instead of dynamic SQL queries, and using stored procedures. Remove HTML encoding from user input to reduce your application s vulnerabili ties to CSS. Detailed error messages are a potentially useful source of information to an attacker. Therefore, you should display detailed error messages only to users who have been authenticated. To prevent failures from causing additional problems, close all open connections, and fail to a more secure mode.

You might notice the fully qualified assembly name in the behaviorExtensions tag. This is a requirement, at least at the moment. If the type name is not fully qualified, a ConfigurationErrorsException exception is thrown. In fact, in what some consider to be a bug, the type name is actually white space sensitive. All disks are basic disks by default. When you need to take advantage of the function ality that dynamic disks provide, you must convert the basic disks to dynamic disks (remember that this feature is available only in Windows XP Professional and that you cannot use dynamic disks on portable computers). You can convert a basic disk to a dynamic disk without losing existing data. For the conversion to be successful, there must be at least 1 MB of free, unparti tioned space available on the basic disk. This 1 MB is necessary to store the dynamic disk database, which tracks the configuration of all dynamic disks in the computer. If Windows XP Professional created the existing partitions, it will have automatically reserved the 1 MB of space required for the conversion. If another operating system or a third-party utility program created the partitions prior to upgrading, there is a chance that no free space is available. In that case, you will probably have to repartition the drive so that 1 MB of space is reserved as blank space. During the conversion, all primary and extended partitions become simple dynamic volumes, and the disk will join the local disk group and receive a copy of the dynamic disk database.
