Closed ... that in many cases it will be started automatically if needed. This happens if a serious anomaly is detected in the volume structure on server startup. VREPAIR is thorough enough, but it has one major drawback: it s slow. Its slowness is due to the fact that VREPAIR can do just one thing: it checks all tables that are needed to access files and, if needed, tries to recover files from the volume. Because it needs to check all tables that exist on a volume, VREPAIR can take a very long time to complete. It s not difficult to run VREPAIR manually: 1. Access the OES - NetWare console and type DISMOUNT YOURVOLUME to dismount the volume you want to repair with VREPAIR. 2. Next, enter VREPAIR YOURVOLUME. VREPAIR.NLM will be started automatically and repair any errors present. It can take a long time for VREPAIR to finish: count on a minimum of about 15 minutes; on large volumes, it can take several hours. When it s finished, VREPAIR shows a screen like in that in Figure 11-15. 3. Enter MOUNT YOURVOLUME to mount the repaired volume again. Notice that both StudentReport and Student depend upon TestScore.
